The Children of Ferramonti

The Bengasi Group (Sep 1940)

Around 300 Jewish refugees (men, women and 20 children) arrived at Ferramonti on September 16, 1940. From Trieste they had sailed to Bengasi in the failed attempt to reach Palestine. They were brought back to Naples and Ferramonti. Over time, many were transferred to other camps.

The Ljubljana Group (Jul 1941)

Around 100 Jewish refugees (men, women and children) arrived at Ferramonti in July 1941 from Ljubljana, Slovenia. They had fled the massacres in Croatia.

The Kavaja Group (Oct 1941)

Around 180 Jewish refugees (men, women and at least 22 children) arrived at Ferramonti in July 1941. They had come from Serbia to Montenegro. Arrested in July 1941 at Bocche di Cattaro (Montenegro) were interned in Albania at Kavajë (near Durazzo). From there they were brought to Bari and Ferramonti. Over time, many were transfrred to other camps

Pietro Emanuele Springer was born in 1941 in Ferramonti (near Cosenza), Italy, to Czech refugees Adolfo Springer and Antonia Jokl Ornstein. They moved to Castelnuovo Garfagnana in October 1941 where they remained until July 1942. They survived in hiding.

1942

Silvia Margoliner was born July 15, 1942 in Ferramonti (near Cosenza), Italy, to German refugees Alfonso Margoliner and Herta Wolf. The family was liberated in Ferramonti in Sept 1943. In March 1945 the family was in Bari, Italy.

1943

Pietro Tomaso Kellner was born May 27, 1943 in Ferramonti (near Cosenza), Italy, to Austrian refugees Sebaldo Adolfo Kellner and Margherita Broder. The family was liberated in Ferramonti in Sept 1943. In August 1944 the family was in Bari, Italy.
