Biography
Belja (Deya) Altarac was born October 27, 1932 in Sarajevo, Bosnia, to Leone Altarac and Estera Papo. As refugees from Yugoslavia, the Croatian family (mother and daughters) arrived at Spalato, Dalmatia. They were sent to Asti in December 1941, and Ferramonti in May 1943. Liberated at Ferramonti on Sept 10, 1943. In July 1944 they sailed to Fort Ontario, United States.
