Gertrude Vitriol (F / Slovakia, 1929), Holocaust survivor

Biography

Gertrude Vitriol was born June 11, 1929 in Ruzomberok, Slovakia, to Bartolomeo Vitriol and Margarete Berczi. Refugees in Italy, in May 1940 they joined the Benghasi Group and went to Libya, hoping to sail to Palestine. From Lybia they were sent to Ferramonti in September 1940 and then to KZ L'Aquila (Carsoli) in September 1941 and to KZ Perugia (Umbertide) in December 1942. After Sept 1943, they survived in hiding until liberation. In November 1944 they were in Rome.
