The Bible is the Scripture of Jews (Hebrew Bible) and Christians (Old Testament and New Testament, plus the OT Apocrypha).

In antiquity the Bible was transmitted in Hebrew and Greek. The Latin version (the Vulgate) became normative among Christians) in Western Europe. Other ancient versions were made in Syriac, Ethiopic, Slavonic, Arabic, Armenian, and other languages.

In modern times, the Bible was (entirely and partially) translated into the major European national" languages first by Christians.

Among the first printed edition of Bible Translations in the second half of the 15th century are the German version and the Italian version.

In the 16th century the Reformation promoted the use of vernacular versions of the Bible. In Protestant countries we see the appearance of the first "authorized" versions of the Bible, while in Catholic countries the availability of translations was strongly limited.
