Many Italian scholars continued to publish their works, especially biblical commentaries, in Latin language. Italian scholarship, however, strengthened. The Bible by Brucioli was the first translation of the Bible in modern language to openly reject the authority of the Vulgate. Pietro Lauro translated the work of Josephus and Hegesippus in Italian. Andrea Arrivabene completed the first translation of the Qur'an in a modern language.
