Abstract

Giovanni Boccaccio's work widely circulated in manuscript form and already translated into Italian. This was only the first Italian printed edition of a very popular work. Thanks to the press, the biographies of women, whose life was of interest for "biblical studies, such as Eve, Athaliah, Mariamne and Poppea, became even more widely known.
