(+) L'Alcorano di Maometto (The Alquran of Muhammad / 1547 Arrivabene), book
L'Alcorano di Maometto <Italian> = The Alquran of Muhammad (1547) is a book by Andrea Arrivabene.
Abstract
"Nel quale si contiene la dottrina, la vita, i costumi, e le leggi sue. Tradotto nuovamente dall'arabo in lingua italiana."
The Florentine Andrea Arrivabene was the first to publish a translation of the Koran into a modern European language. Although he claimed to have translated the text in Italian from the Arabic, his version was based on the Latin version by Robert of Ketton (Lex Mahumet pseudoprophete (Law of Muhammad the False Prophet / 1143 Robert of Ketton), ms.), which had been printed for the first time a few years earlier in 1543 by Theodor Bibliander, see Machumetis, Saracenorvm principis, eiusque successorum vitae, ac doctrina, ipseque Alcoran (1543 Bibliander), book.
Arrivabene's work originated the first versions of the Koran into German and Dutch.
