Antiquitates Urbis (1527) is a book by Andrea Fulvio.

Abstract

A disciple of Pomponio Leto, Andrea Fulvio devoted two chapters of his work to the ancient cemeteries of Rome. Although Pomponio Leto and the members of his Academy occasionally visited some catacombs, the emphasis of Fulvio's work was on Roman (not Christian) antiquities. Fulvio's work however inspired Onofrio Panvinio to write in 1568 the first treatise on Christian cemeteries; see De ritu sepeliendi mortuos apud veteres Christianos et eorundem coemeteriis (1568 Panvinio), book. Only in 1578 began the archaeological exploration on the catacombs, that would be carried out by Antonio Bosio.
