History of Research (1500s) -- Notes

Many Italian scholars continued to publish their works, especially biblical commentaries, in Latin language. Italian scholarship, however, strengthened. The Bible by Brucioli was the first translation of the Bible in modern language to openly reject the authority of the Vulgate. Pietro Lauro translated the work of Josephus and Hegesippus in Italian. Andrea Arrivabene completed the first translation of the Qur'an in a modern language. Marco Antonio Lanfranchi's version of the work of Panvinio on the main churches in Rome was the first translation into Italian of a major scholarly work in the field. Between 1580 and 1581, Piero Baldelli completed in two volumes the complete Italian translation of Josephus' Works.
