Jewish refugees to Switzerland from Italy

Overview

Around 1000 Jewish children managed to escape to Switzerland from Italy after the Nazi occupation in September 1943. Most of them were Italian Jews, but among them were also many refugees who had reached Italy from the Balkans and dah been interned in various localities in Northern Italy.

Not always the attempt to cross the border was successful. Many had to go back, some (like Liliana Segre were arrested and deported.
