Nero (37 CE - 68 CE) was the fifth Roman Emperor--the fifth and last of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. He reigned from 54 (after Claudius to 68 (followed by the Year of the Four Emperors).

Nero has the reputation of being the first persecutor of Christianity. Both Paul and Peter are believed to have died in Rome during his reign.
