Neutestamentliche Zeitgeschichte (1940-1956) is a book by Werner Foerster.

Abstract

The work was planned as a two-volume work, dealing with the Jewish and the Greco-Roman background, respectively. Only the first volume could be published during the wartime.

Editions and translations

The first volume was published in Berlin [Germany]: Furche, 1940; under the sub-title Der zeitgeschichtliche Hintergrund des Lebens und der Verkündigung Jesu. After the Second World War, the Author revised the first volume (and retitled it: Das Judentum Palästinas zur Zeit Jesu und der Apostel), and completed the second volume (Das römische Weltreich zur Zeit des Neuen Testaments). This second edition was published in Hamburg [Germany]: Furcheverlag, <2 vols.> 1955-1956. A third edition was completed in 1959-61.

Translations

The first volume of the 3rd edition was translated into English (1964) under the title Palestinian Judaism in New Testament Times (Great Britain), and From the Exile to Christ (United States). The Korean ed. was based on the American ed.
