{en} From the Manger to the Cross (USA, 1912) is a feature film (silent, B&W, 71m), directed by Sidney Olcott.

Abstract

It was one of the first movies to be made on location (in the "Holy Land... with scenes filmed at Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and other authentic locations in Palestine"). It was also one of the most expensive projects of its time for the film industry.

Actress and screenwriter Gene Gauntier wrote the script and portrayed the Virgin Mary. The costumes were based on Tissot. British actor Robert Henderson Bland became so engrossed in the part of Jesus that he later wrote two books about the making of the film, From the Manger to the Cross (1922) and Actor-Soldier-Poet (1939).
