The Escaped Cock (aka The Man Who Died) (1928) is a novel by David Herbert Lawrence.
Abstract
Reviving from his execution, Jesus no longer cares about his mission, except that he feels he over stressed the giving of love. Now convinced that taking love is necessary, too, Jesus engages in a love affair with a priestess of Isis, celebrating his bodily existence and sensuality.
Editions
An international bestseller. Published in England (London: 1928) and the United States (New York: 1928). Reissued several times, and translated in the major European and non-European languages.
