Pontius Pilate is a central character in virtually all Jesus movies, especially on those which focus on the Passion of Jesus and on the Trial of Jesus. Some films dealing with the Second Temple Judaism and Christian Origins also gave occasionally some role to Pontius Pilate, where he interacted with other (historical or fictional) characters like Barabbas, Ben-Hur, Salome, Herod Antipas, Caiaphas, the Wandering Jew, and others.

Famous actors like Jean Gabin, Rod Stieger, and others, played the part of Pilate, contributing to his relevance of the character and adding new twists to the traditional narrative.
