Caesar's Friend (1939) is a British TV production (sound, B&W, 90m) of Caesar's Friend (1933 Dixon, Morrah), play.

Abstract

The film focuses on Pontius Pilate's most momentous decision told from his point of view.

The BBC began to produced television programs from its own studios in London since 22 August 1932. The start of its regular service of television broadcasts is dated to 2 November 1936, before being interrupted by the outbreak of WW2 on 1 September 1939.

Broadcast on 2 April 1939, the TV play Caesar's Friend was the first fictional work of biblical subject to be aired on television.

After BBC resumed its programs on 7 June 1946, a second version of the same play was broadcast on 1 May 1947 with some members of the original cast; see Caesar's Friend (1947 / @1933 Dixon, Morrah), British (TV) production (play), followed by a third and final production in 1954.
