The Passion Play of Oberammergau (United States, 1898) is a short film (silent, B&W, 19m), directed by Henry C. Vincent.
Abstract
The film claimed to be a recording of the famous Oberammergau Passion Play in Bavaria, even though the last performance of that play had occurred in 1890. In reality, the 19-minute film was a "reenactment" shot in 23 scenes on the roof of New York City's Grand Central Palace Hotel. The scenario was based primarily of the Morse Passion Play, performed in 1879 in San Francisco, CA; see The Passion (1879 Morse), play, by Salmi Morse (1826-1884).
