The Icelanders are the citizens of Iceland as well as the majority ethnic group that originated from that country (circa 450,000). They primarily speak the Icelandic language.

Most Icelanders (circa 300,000) today live within the borders of independent Iceland. There are sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in Canada, the United States, and Norway.
