The category: Irish, highlights the national and linguistic identity of people, associated with Ireland and Irish language and culture.

Overview

The Irish people are an ethnic group that primarily inhabit Ireland and speak the Irish language or the English language (circa 80 million).

Most Irish today live together within the borders of independent Ireland or in the United Kingdom's autonomous region of Northern Ireland (circa 5 million). There are Irish minorities in the nearby United Kingdom, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in the United States (with circa 40 million Irish-Americans), Canada, Australia, Argentina, and other countries.
