La Maddalena [aka La Maddalena lasciva e penitente] <Italian> / Magdalene (1617) is a play by Giovan Battista Andreini.

Abstract

The “sacra rappresentazione” included incidental music and arias composed for the occasion by a group of Italian musicians, namely, Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), Salomone Rossi (1570-c.1630), Muzio Effrem (1549-c.1640), and Alberto Ghivizzani (c.1572-c.1632); see La Maddalena (Magdalene / 1617 Monteverdi, Rossi, Effrem, Ghivizzani), theatre music.

Editions, performances

Written for the festivities celebrating the wedding of Duke Ferdinando di Gonzaga and Caterina de’ Medici, was performed in Mantua, Italy: Palazzo Ducale, March 1617.
