Henry Winkler / Heinz Winkler (M / Austria, Italy, 1930), Holocaust survivor.

Biography

Heinz Winkler was born March 3, 1930 in Vienna, Austria. His father was arrested and released on the condition that he leave Austria immediately. Like the Artz family, they moved to Genoa, Italy.

In 1940 the two families were sent to Ferramonti. Later they were transferred to Pari (near Siena). There, after Sept 8, 1943 the two families survived with the help of the local population.

After the war, they were sent to the DP camp at Cinecittà (in Rome). Henry Winkler came to the United States in 1951.
