La Maddalena <Italian> / Magdalene (1617) is the theatre music by Claudio Monteverdi, Salomone Rossi, Muzio Effrem, and Alberto Ghivizzani for La Maddalena (Magdalene / 1617 Andreini), play.

Abstract

The “sacra rappresentazione” by Giovan Battista Andreini included incidental music and arias composed for the occasion by a group of Italian musicians, namely, Claudio Monteverdi, Salomone Rossi, Muzio Effrem, and Alberto Ghivizzani.

Editions, performances

Written for the festivities celebrating the wedding of Duke Ferdinando di Gonzaga and Caterina de’ Medici, the play and the music were performed in Mantua, Italy: Palazzo Ducale, March 1617.
