Laura Altarac (F / Bosnia / Italy, 1942), Holocaust survivor
Biography
Laura Altarac (9 May 1942) was born in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, to Hana (Anna) Altarac. She arrived at Fort Ontario with her mother and uncle Jacob Altarac. The family had fled to Spalato, Dalmatia. From there, in November 1941 they were transferred as civilian internees to Vicenza (loc. San Nazario) until Oct 1943. They survived in hiding in Central Italy, until Liberation in the Summer 1944. In July 1944, they sailed to Fort Ontario.
