History of Research (1600s) -- Notes
In 1602 Thomas Lodge published the first English translation of the Latin Josephus, based on the French translation by Nicolas de Herberay. It was the standard text in English along with the 1558 version of the Josippon by Peter Morwen (also reprinted several times in the 17th century).
Arnoldus Arlenius's editio princeps of Josephus's Greek text was followed in the 17th century by the first bilingual edition, Latin and Greek, by Pierre de La Rovière. New editions of the Greek text then appeared in Geneve (1634) and by Ittig (Leipzig, 1691).
