Jerzy Wegier was born in 1930 in Radom, Poland, to Zigmund, an optician, and Bela Wegier.
After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, they fled to the Soviet Union (Ukraine, Georgia, and elsewhere). Father was accused of theft and died in prison.
After the war, mother and son went back to Poland (Gordonia Kibbutz preparing to travel to Palestine). In 1945 he arrived in Britain where he reunited with his cousins Chaim Wajchendler (Howard Chandler) and Herschel Wajchendler (Harry Wajchendler). His mother also arrived to England in 1948.
