El gnosticismo: esencia, origen y trayectoria <Spanish> / Gnosticism: Its Origins, Essence, and Development (2009) is a book by Francisco García Bazán.

Abstract

In agreement with the renewed criteria set forth in present scholarship on the Nag Hammadi library and the codex containing the Gospel of Judas, the present volume portrays Gnosticism as the first attempt to work out a Christian philosophy. It also goes deep into the roots of Gnosticism and describes its oldest forms of thought and praxis, which, according to the author, were born from within late 1st century Judaism and the Judeo-Christian milieu. The volume finally explores the presence of Gnostic groups in the first stages of Christian history and its systematic rejection by nascent proto-Catholicism due to the role played by charismatic spiritualism and inner hierarchy in such groups. An updated Spanish version of The Gospel of Judas and the Apocalypse of James, two writings of the recently published Tchacos codex, is provided in appendix. - Juan B. García Bazán, John F.
