Peter's Mother-in-Law was one of the Miracles of Jesus, according to the Gospels of Mark (1:29-34), Matthew (8:14-17), and Luke (4:38-41).

Overview

According to the Synoptic Gospels, the healing of Peter's Mother-in-Law occurred at Capernaum.

In Mark and Luke, the healing occurred on Sabbath, after Jesus preached in the synagogue at Capernaum, where he healed a Man with an Unclean Spirit. In Mark, however, the episode happened after the Call of the First Disciples, while in Luke it was before Peter and his brother were called.

Matthew located the episode much later in the Ministry of Jesus, omitting any references to the Sabbath setting

All three Gospels refer that at the sunset of that day, many sick people came to Jesus to be healed. The detail confirms that the original timing of the episode was on Sabbath, as only at sunset the sick could be carried by their friends and relatives to Jesus.

Mark 1:29-34 (NRSV) -- [29] As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. [30] Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. [31] He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34 And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

Matthew 8:14-17 (NRSV) -- [14] When Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever; [15] he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him. [16] That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were sick. [17] This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah, "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases."

Gospel of Luke

Luke 4:38-41 (NRSV) -- [38] After leaving the synagogue he entered Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her. [39] Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she got up and began to serve them. [40] As the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various kinds of diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on each of them and cured them. [41] Demons also came out of many, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Messiah.
