Gamaliel in ancient sources

Gamaliel is mentioned only in

The teacher of Paul of Tarsus

According to Acts, Paul studied "at the feet of Gamaliel" (22:3).

Later Christian and Rabbinic traditions

Gamaliel figures prominently in Rabbinic tradition, where he is recorded as a respected teacher. "Since Rabban Gamaliel the Elder died, there has been no more reverence for the law, and purity and piety died out at the same time" [Mishnah Sotah 15:18].

Christian tradition, on the other hand, speculated on his conversion with Nicodemus, and made him a saint.
