Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954) is a feature film (sound, color, 101m), directed by Delmer Daves. Written by Philip Dunne and Lloyd C. Douglas. Music by Franz Waxman; see Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954 Waxman), film music.

Abstract

A direct sequel to (++) The Robe (1953 Koster), feature film told the story of the Greek slave Demetrius, now free, and of how he loses his faith in God and becomes Messalina's lover, and then finds his faith again. The first American spectacular to raise seriously the question of doubt. Starring Victor Mature (Demetrius). Grossed over $4 million in the United States alone.
