Mariamne (1723) is a play by Elijah Fenton.
Abstract
Tragedy in five acts, based on the story in Josephus, treated the theme with more sympathy and gentleness than its English predecessors.
Editions, performances
Premiered in London (Lincoln's-Inn-Fields Th., 22 February 1723) and was a brilliant success. The author is said to have netted a profit of over one thousand pounds.
