The Light of the World (1854) is a painting by William Holman Hunt.

Abstract

The quintessential Pre-Raphaelite image of Jesus, by one of the founders of the Brotherhood.

History and current location

Painted for the parish of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Ewell, is now in a side room off the large chapel at Keble College, Oxford. Towards the end of his life, Hunt made a large copy of the painting, which is now in St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
