(+) Der Tod Jesu (The Death of Jesus / 1755 Ramler), libretto
Der Tod Jesu <German> / The Death of Jesus (1755) is an oratorio libretto by Karl Wilhelm Ramler.
Abstract
Der Tod Jesus was the most popular libretto of the Passion of Jesus in Germany in the second half of the 18th century. Unlike the earlier Brockes-Passion, Ramler's libretto does not imbue the tenor soloist with the role of narrator or Evangelist, nor is the bass cast as Vox Christi.
Editions
Published in 1755 as the second part of a trilogy on Jesus (Die Hirten bei der Krippe zu Bethlehem; Der Tod Jesu; Die Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt). Ramler revised his text in 1760.
