Abstract
Tells the story of Jesus Christ in modern day South Africa as one man's journey of love, deception and betrayal, focusing on the role of his mother.
Jesus was born in a contemporary fictional African State, the Kingdom of Herod. As a child he escaped genocide. He grew up a community leader, a non-violent political activist, seeking unity and solidarity for his people. His violent death, ordered by the corrupted rulers of the country, becomes an enduring example of resilience and resistance against any form of oppression. By dying, Jesus accomplishes his goal to unite the poor and the oppressed.
Production
Produced in South Africa (2005). Premiered January 22, 2006 at the Sundance Film Festival.
