The King of Kings (1927) is a silent film directed by Cecil B. DeMille.

Abstract

Regarded for decades as the finest telling of the story of Jesus on film, set expectations of how the movies would handle the Gospels: sex, sin, innocent children, and extreme reverence for Jesus. Remarkable for its time is the sensitive attention to avoid any element of anti-Semitism, by stressing explicitly how the responsibility for the death of the death of Jesus lies on the High Priest alone and not on the entire Jewish people.
