Overview
The Peruvians are the multi-ethnic citizens of Peru (circa 31 million). Aside from the indigenous population, most Peruvians or their ancestors came from other countries (mainly Spain and Africa) within the past five centuries, as a result of immigration and slave trade. They primarily speak the Spanish language.
Most Peruvians today live within the borders of independent Peru (circa 29,500,000). There are many Peruvians in nearby Argentina, Chile, and Venezuela, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in the United States, Spain, Italy, and other countries.
