Overview

The Chileans are the multi-ethnic citizens of Chile (circa 42 million). Aside from the indigenous population, nearly all Chileans or their ancestors came from other countries (mainly Spain and Italy) within the past five centuries, as a result of immigration. They primarily speak the Spanish language.

Most Chileans today live within the borders of independent Chile (circa 40 million). There are many Chileans in nearby Paraguay, and Chile, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in Spain, the United States, and other countries.
