Ponzio Pilato <Italian> / Pontius Pilate (Italy, France, 1962) is a feature film (sound, color, 100m), directed by Gian Paolo Callegari and Irvin Rapper.

Abstract

Pilate wants Jesus convicted, to avoid the release of the terrorist Barabbas at the Passover. To this end he tricks Judas into betraying Jesus. Pilate's plot fails, as the crowd choose to save Barabbas, not Jesus. Judas hangs himself in remorse.

Cast

The film has an international cast in which Italian actors have only supporting roles. French actor Jean Marais starred as Pilate. American actor John Drew Barrymore played both Judas Iscariot and Jesus of Nazareth.

Production

Produced in Italy and France (1962). Released in Italy on 15 February 1962, and internationally in the following years.
