Overview
Overview

The Chileans are the multi-ethnic citizens of Chile (circa 18 million). Aside from the large indigenous population, most Chileans or their ancestors came from other countries (mainly Spain) within the past five centuries, as a result of immigration. They primarily speak the Spanish language.

Most Chileans today live within the borders of independent Chile (circa 17 million). There are many Chileans in nearby Argentina, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in the United States, Canada, Sweden, and other countries.
