Overview
In 1633, after the Black Death hit Oberammergau, the village "vowed to perform the passion Play every ten years."
The first Passion Play was performed in 1634, and again in 1644 and 1654.
In 1662 the schoolmaster completed a new script for the 4th Passion Play in 1664, which continued to be performed and revised regularly every 10 years (1674, 1680, 1690, 1700, 1710, 1720, 1730, 1740).
