The Brook Kerith: A Syrian Story (1916) is a novel by George Moore.

Abstract

In this acclaimed novel, Jesus is depicted as, prior to his ministry, a member of the Essene brotherhood. Under John the Baptist's influence he becomes a teacher; then, after passing through stages of hopefulness and despair, he undergoes crucifixion without, however, really dying.
