Bible Translations into Albanian

Overview

  • 1761 -- The first known translation of the New Testament into Albanian is the so-called Elbasan Gospel Manuscript. The manuscript was written in 1761, probably the work of Gregory of Durrës, the Metropolitan (archbishop) of the Archdiocese of Durrës.
  • 1821 -- Vangjel Meksi completed the translation of the New Testament into Albanian, which was posthumously published in 1827.
  • 1857 -- Kostandin Kristoforidhi published a series of translations of the New Testament and other Biblical books into Albanian.
  • 1980 -- The Catholic priest Simon Filipaj published in Croatia a translation of the New Testament into Albanian.
