Baur studied in 1809-14 at the University of Tübingen under [[Ernst Gottlieb Bengel]]. After graduation he taught  in Blaubeuren until he returned to Tübingen in 1826 as Professor. Profoundly influenced by Hegel, Baur was the leader of the Tübingen School. [[David Friedrich Strauss]] was one of his first students.
