Caesar Rodney (1728-1784) - Governor (Delaware, 1778-1781)
Born and died in Delaware. Caesar Rodney was an American Founding Father, lawyer, and politician from St. Jones Neck in Dover Hundred, Kent County, Delaware. He was an officer of the Delaware militia during the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War, a Continental Congressman from Delaware, a signer of the Continental Association and Declaration of Independence, and president of Delaware during most of the American Revolution.
He is regarded as the fist American politician and governor of Italian descent. As attested by genealogy studies, among the Rodney family ancestors were the prominent Adelmare family in Treviso, Italy. It is difficult however to say if Caesar Rodney was aware of it, or to which extant this was significant to him.
