Jesús, María y José <Spanish> / Jesus, Mary and Joseph (1972) is a feature film (sound, color, 85m), directed by Miguel Zacarías.

Abstract

Third part of a trilogy, started with Jesús, Nuestro Señor (1969 Zacarías), film, by Mexican-Lebanese director.

This is the first movie to focus entirely on the Childhood of Jesus and speculate on his whereabouts as a boy. The Mexican movie was traditional in its approach to the subject; the father of Jesus, Joseph of Nazareth, was portrayed as an old man acting as a guardian or grandfather of Jesus. Yet the script had necessarily the create an original narrative, besides the Lukean episode of Jesus among the Doctors, so inaugurating a new genre that would be soon followed by other movies, notably, Un bambino di nome Gesù (1987 Rossi), film, La sacra famiglia (2006 Mertes), film, and Io sono con te (2010 Chiesa), film.
