Aristobulus of Chalcis was a member of the House of Herod and the House of Hasmoneus. He was the son of Herod of Chalcis and Mariamne IV.

Overview

Aristobulus of Chalcis was the son of Herod of Chalcis and Mariamne IV. His paternal grandparents were Aristobulus IV and Berenice I, while Olympias and Joseph ben Joseph were his maternal grandparents. He was thus related to both the House of Herod and the House of Hasmoneus.

In 55 CE, he was appointed by Emperor Nero as King of Armenia Minor and ruled in the area until 92 CE.

He married Salome, the dauhter of Herodias and the widow of Herod Philip. The couple had three sons named Herod, Agrippa, and Aristobulus.
