Mariamne IV was a member of the House of Herod. She was the daughter of Herod's daughter Olympias, and the wife of Herod of Chalcis.


Overview

Mariamne IV was a member to the House of Herod. She was the daughter of Olympias and Joseph ben Joseph. Her maternal grandparents were Herod the Great and Malthace; her father was also one of Herod's nephews. Her brothers were Herod Archelaus and Herod Antipas.

Mariamne IV married her cousin Herod of Chalcis. The couple had a son, Aristobulus of Chalcis, who married Salome, the daughter of Herodias and the widow of the tetrarch Herod Philip.

After the premature death of Mariamne IV, Herod of Chalcis remarried with Berenice.

Research on Mariamne IV is limited by the paucity of historical sources. Mariamne is little more that a name in the genealogies of the descendants of Herod.
