Der Prophet Esra (IV Ezra) (1900) is a book by Hermann Gunkel.

Abstract

The book is a monograph version of the introduction and annotated German translation which Gunkel wrote for Kautzsch's OT collection. See Die Apokryphen und Pseudepigraphen des Alten Testaments (1900 Kautzsch), edited volume, 2:331-402.

Gunkel rejected Kabisch's documentary hypothesis in the composition of 4 Ezra, by stressing the unity of the document. He saw in 4 Ezra the testimony of an author torn apart by his doubts and conflicting beliefs.
