Born 1932 in Tluste, Poland, near Zaleszczyki; son of Majer and Fajga Essig. When the Tluste Ghetto was liquidated, only 300 men were kept alive to work in a farm.

I left my brother [with the Wiszniewski family and I joined the partisans] ... I learned to shoot so well that they took me everywhere with them ... Now I just want to go to Palestine and work there. And if I have to fight then I will. This time I shall know what I am fighting for."
