Biography.jpg

The category: Uruguayan, highlights the national or linguistic identity of people, associated with Uruguay and Uruguayan culture.

The Uruguayans are the multi-ethnic citizens of Uruguay (circa 4 million). Aside from the indigenous population, nearly all Uruguayans or their ancestors came from other countries (mainly Spain and Italy) within the past five centuries, as a result of immigration. They primarily speak the Spanish language.

Most Uruguayans today live within the borders of independent Uruguay (circa 3.5 million). There are many Uruguayans in nearby Argentina, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in the United States, Spain, Australia, and other countries.
