Benito Arias Montano (1527-1598) was a Spanish scholar.
Biography
Spanish orientalist and Hebraist A student at the Universities of Seville and Alcalá, joined the priesthood in 1559. Summoned in 1568 by King Philip II of Spain to supervise a new polyglot edition of the Bible (the so-called Anterwerp Polyglot, or Biblia regia). Arias also published several works of biblical exegesis in connection with the Polyglot.
